The aim of this study is to investigate students' conceptions of and approaches to learning within pre-primary teacher education. In previous research, a quantitative and a qualitative view of learning have been identified, as well as a surface, a deep, and an achieving approach. In the empirical study, students (N=130) within pre-primary teacher education at Åbo Akademi participate. All students are asked to answer two questionnaires: "Conceptions of learning Inventory" (Erik Meyer) and "Study Process Questionnaire" (John Biggs).Based on the results from the quantitative study, 30 students are then selected for participating in qualitative deepinterviews. The aim is thus to map the conceptions and approaches among all students and then more apecifically to deepen certain aspects in theme-interviews.As a result of the quantitative and qualitative analyses of data, the aim is to identify different conceptions of and approaches to learning among students within pre-primary teacher education. In comparing similarities and differences between students at the beginning and the end of the educational program, the aim is further to relate the results to the pre-primary teacher education.
